'Dia de Los Muertos’ or the Day of the Dead is a two-day Mexican holiday, which is celebrated on the 1st and 2nd November every year. Most people think it’s just a Mexican version of Halloween, but Day of the Dead is much more than just dressing up in bright colorful clothes and enjoying all the festivities. It is celebrated to remember and honor the deceased members of the family.

In Mexico, people celebrate the Day of the Dead with great fervor and enthusiasm. They don colorful costumes and funky makeup. Parades, parties, and prayer meets are organized everywhere and offerings are made to the lost loved ones. The idea is to celebrate the lives of those who’ve departed instead of crying and grieving their demise. Mexican culture sees death as a part of life itself. So, it is believed that one should have
a sense of acceptance towards death and celebrate its arrival when it’s time.

This beautiful tapestry is an ode to this 2-day festival and to the belief system behind it as well. It showcases a skull with a psychedelic design in it, which is surrounded by smaller skulls and a thick black border. The tapestry is 30 inches wide and 40 inches in length, which is perfect to be used as a wall hanging, curtain, tablecloth, sarong, or a beach throw.

The material used here is soft woven cotton and the print has been created using the traditional Indian screen printing method. It can be washed by hand or in a machine using mild detergent.
